During another one of my local walks I came across some stacking Hoverflies - having never witnessed this kind of behaviour before I was mesmerised by these little things, watching intently through my camera. At first there were 5 Hoverflies all lined up neatly hovering above each other. I managed to get a shot of 4 but with too much vegetation in the way it proved difficult and as I moved along there were more, 3 this time and with a much clearer background. So I quickly took a few shots. Also along the way were more insects just waiting to be photographed. Here are some more from my walk.

A few hours out one evening at a location not to far away was indeed magical - here are a few shots of the many Damselflies basking in the warm evening light. Oh! and a Ladybird too!! Whilst at Gwynfa Camera Club's annual BBQ last week, the sun started to set with the most glorious colours, and as we are a camera club a few of us had taken along our cameras (and tripods too!!) to hopefully catch the sunset in all it's glory. It didn't disappoint and here are two images to show you how wonderful it was. Just two shots taken of the Old Lime Works at Aberthaw with some 'treatment' added in post processing to give them a more dynamic look. Many thanks to Nick Jenkins of http://www.freespiritimages.com/ for showing me the delights of this old building, telling me all about its history and for showing me around the nature reserve observing the wonders of the natural world and taking a few pics along the way. Here are some images to give you a little taster of what the Bridgend Show was like last Sunday. With all this wet weather we've been having lately it hasn't exactly been very good for getting out to do a bit of macro photography, however when the rains have briefly stopped I've grabbed the camera and taken a few local walks. These few macro shots have been taken handheld with the Canon EF100mm f/2.8 macro using my Canon 5D Mark l. Always a challenge when hand holding in breezy conditions (without the luxury of Image Stabilization) but still really good fun!! The Common Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) is the most common of all UK orchids and the one you are most likely to see. It grows in many different habitats including woodland, roadside verges, hedgerows, old quarries, sand dunes and marshes, and my garden!; sometimes so many flowers appear together that they carpet an area with their delicate, pale pink spikes. It is in bloom between June and August. For more info on these delicious little flowers, click on the link. http://www.wildlifetrusts.org/species/common-spotted-orchid Colhugh Beach, Llantwit Major is probably one of my most favourite places I like to go to when heading off to do a bit of coastal photography. It's little headland walks either to Aberthaw Beach one way or St Donats the other are just the right thing for clearing those cobwebs out and for enjoying such beautiful sea views too. With so much rain lately the forecast promised was for it to clear so I decided to take a chance and head off to the coast in the hope of some nice skies. I wasn't disappointed and with the tide on it's way in it made the challenge of getting a decent shot all the more interesting. A few weeks back some of my fellow Gwynfa camera club members and I were very kindly invited to a Medieval photo shoot and hog roast hosted by Abergavenny Camera Club. Many, many thanks to Denise Steer for organising the event. With rain coming down all day we were all a little apprehensive as to whether the event would actually go ahead, but luckily for us it did, as when we got there the weather Gods had decided to be kind to us all - it had stopped raining and turned out to be a glorious evening. Set in the grounds of the fantastic Abergavenny Castle http://www.castlewales.com/abergav.html we all photographed to our hearts content. The Freemen of Gwent http://freemenofgwent.co.uk/ were amazing, so full of wonderful historical facts and very patient models. A most enjoyable evening with many other camera clubs and friends. Here are just a few images from the event. Check out my 'What's New' page or click on this link http://heidistewartphotography.weebly.com/whats-new.html to see more pics. |
